The Folk Arts Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce the outstanding line-up who will be performing at the 36th Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, slated for August 3 – 5, 2012 in Bannerman Park, St. John’s, NL.  This year’s festival is guaranteed to be a well attended and memorable event with performances by The Once, Amelia Curran, James Keelaghan, Andrew James O’Brien, The Dardanelles & many more!

“This Festival is going to be one to remember!  We are back in Bannerman Park with full colours flying and a fantastic line-up of Newfoundland and Labrador performers and crafters who are all ready for a great party” says Anita Best, President of the Folks Arts Society.  “Everybody can’t wait to celebrate the rare occurrence of being in St. John’s all together at the same time.  Come rain or shine we’ll rock the Park!  We hope festival goers from near and far will join us and celebrate the living traditions of this wonderful place we all call home!”

Other acts slated to perform are A Crowd of Bold Sharemen, Idlers, Vishten, Danette Eddy, Jenny Gear with Sandy Morris & Billy Sutton, Crooked Stovepipe, The Rosalines, The Forgotten Bouzouki, Bowline, Qristina and Quinn Bachand, Allan Byrne and Holly Hogan, All The Wiles, The All-Stars, Valerie Hewson and St. John’s Song Circle.  More acts to be announced soon!

Now in its 36th year, the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival takes place in St. John’s on the weekend following the Royal St. John’s Regatta. It is the second oldest continuously running folk festival in Canada. Each year, the NL Folk Festival brings thousands of people together to celebrate the best in traditional and contemporary folk music and dance. The Folk Arts Society promotes folk arts in Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Canada.

  • Serious fires occurred in 1816, 1817, 1819, and 1846. AND THEN, the Great Fire of 1892 destroyed three-quarters of the city.
