Florian Hoefner Trio Concert and Masterclass at MUN

St. John’s based acclaimed jazz pianist, Florian Hoefner will bring his jazz trio to Memorial University.

The group will give a free and open to the public masterclass at 2pm and will play a concert at 7.30pm at D.F. Cook Hall. Concert tickets are $22 / $16 seniors and students / $5 12 and under.

The trio features Newfoundland-native, Jim Vivian on bass and Nick Fraser on drums, both based in Toronto and on faculty at the University of Toronto’s jazz program.

Hoefner, who moved to St. John’s from New York City in 2014 when his wife was appointed professor for single reeds at Memorial University, maintains an international touring schedule with his jazz quartet and other ensembles. “Coldwater Stories”, his latest solo release, has been described as “sublimely evocative music” by The WholeNote. With this new trio project he focuses on his arrangements of folk tunes from different parts of the world as well as some originals.
