‘Wexford Plaza’ Film Screening

Against the backdrop of a deteriorating strip mall (brilliantly shot by cinematographer Maya Bankovic), Wexford Plaza tells the story of an unexpected sexual encounter between an isolated female security guard and a make-up salesman, and the miscommunication that ensues. Equal parts humourous and heartbreaking, writer and director Joyce Wong provides a glimpse into the lives and minds of two well-meaning characters as they navigate their loneliness.

Since its Canadian premiere here in St. John’s at SJIWFF28, Wexford Plaza has gone on to be nominated for a number of awards, including the 2018 John Dunning Discovery Award at the Canadian Screen Awards.

A special Q&A with cinematographer Maya Bankovic following the screening.
