DSJ Video Recognized By CONVENE

Destination St. John’s (DSJ), “Colourful Characters, Colourful Experiences” video is recognized in the Best Destination Video category by CONVENE

St. John’s, August 11, 2014. The Professional Convention Management Association, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with Chapters in 34 countries has recognized Destination St. John’s marketing efforts. Their publication CONVENE has an Annual Best in Show edition and has recognized the DSJ video in the Best Destination Video category.

Destination St. John’s set out to create a video that brought the destination to life and that told its colourful story. St John’s has an eclectic sophisticated urban centre that is on the edge of the continent with thousands of miles of unspoiled coastline. Unique features like iceberg viewing from a picnic blanket are spectacular images that illustrate that the destination is exotic. The Irish and English culture remains prevalent, numerous unique dialects, warm and friendly island people where strangers inexplicably become friends are intangible, but part of what makes the destination an uncommon experience. These are difficult to capture in a 60 second video as they are meant to be experienced to be truly appreciated but the video does manage to reveal the intangible.

Rhonda Hutton, Director of Marketing says, “We chose to weave familiar faces (Newfoundland/Canadian celebrities) through the video to create the feeling that travelling to St. John’s will feel familiar, as it somehow does. The wink and the nod that many of the characters provide is one of those lovely unspoken traits that mean welcome. It is quirky, off kilter and it is part of who we are. The end result is an expression of our brand “colourful encounters” and we are thrilled that our efforts, and that of the Idea Factory and producer Mary Sexton, have been recognized by CONVENE.”
