Built for the 1977 Canada Summer Games, the Aquarena Fitness Centre is located on the campus of Memorial University and is managed by The Works. The Aquarena provides facilities related to fitness, aquatic, and recreation for all age groups. It offers programs such as: Recreational Swimming, Adult Lane Swim, Masters Swimming, Tiny Tot Program, Children’s Lessons, Adult Lessons, Private Lessons, Lifeguarding, Aquatic Sport Clubs. Facilities available at the Aquarena include a 65 meter, 8 lane swimming pool; 2 water slides (205 ft twister slide and 90ft tube slide); Tarzan Rope; Diving boards and Towers; 2 Kiddie Slides; Large public change rooms, showers, and saunas; Special needs change room and shower; and Coin operated lockers. The Aquarena has a wide variety of strength training and toning equipment to suit your needs. The equipment is very user friendly and is great for novice and advanced users. There is a great selection of cardio equipment such as treadmills, arc trainers, ellipticals, spin bikes and rowers, in addition to a large selection of free weights and an abdominal stretching area with mats, exercise balls for core strengthening, jump ropes, ab rollers and more. The Aquarena is also home to two international sized squash courts which are located on the upper level of the building.
