Kittiwake Dance Theatre is delighted to offer a unique performance connecting live cello music, contemporary ballet, and a beautiful outdoor venue to present “Ballet at Bowring”.
Bowring Park has been a place to escape to for special events, exercise, and relaxation since its opening in 1914.
“Ballet at Bowring” takes place on the amphitheatre stage, honouring the park’s vision “to provide all ages with opportunities for leisure and social contact within an environment of outstanding scenery, and in a context which embraces and celebrates its historic development.” The park itself is named after Benjamin Bowring, who travelled here in 1811, started a very successful family business, and eventually donated the money that began the construction of the park. The amphitheatre stage itself is located on the historic land where Sir Richard Squires (former Prime Minister of Newfoundland) and his family used to garden and grow vegetables.
Explore ballet on a new stage with us this summer, and make it a family affair in the open air! With excerpts from past performances of “Alice,” “Alone Together,” and new contemporary pieces, you won’t want to miss this show!
Should the weather not cooperate, our rain day is the following day, Sunday, July 11th!
