Path: Father Troy’s Path (Torbay to Flatrock)
Duration: 3-4 hour(s)
Distance: 8.7 KM
Rating: Easy – Moderate

Leader: Jim Fitzgerald
Co-leaders: Wesley McCabe, Erica Lee

  • This is the first scheduled guided hike of the season, beginners are especially welcome. The leader will give a brief introduction to hiking and the East Coast Trail, emphasizing on preparedness and safety.
  • Please be on time or a bit early.
  • This hike is weather dependant, if the hike leader determines the hike must be cancelled it will be posted on the East Coast Trail’s Facebook page by 7:30am on the morning of the hike.
  • Wear sturdy footwear. Hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended. Sneakers of any type are unsuited to wet terrain or rock-hopping and offer no ankle support.
  • Carry an adequate backpack to carry water, fruit juice or other fluids (a suggestion of 300 ml/hour per person), food items for a snack/lunch, etc. We will be stopping at approximately the half way point for a small lunch break. Do NOT freeze your water, it will not thaw out during the hike.
  • A walking stick/pole/staff helps with balance and reduces the risk of falls and sprains.
  • For safety reasons, it’s always a good idea to carry a whistle.
  • Before the hike, please privately advise the hike leader if you have any concerns, health issues, or severe allergies. (This is not mandatory)
  • Wear layered clothing suitable for the weather. This would include a hat/cap, gloves, warm fleece, jacket/coat/wind breaker as temperatures would be a bit cooler/colder along the coastline at this time of year. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm with an SPF factor are highly recommended.
  • This is a group hike and participants are advised to stay with the designated hike leader and co-leader, and group for safety reasons.
  • Can you bring your dog? That’s up to you, if they are not aggressive, considerate of wildlife, and used to the woods then bring them along. All dogs must be leashed. (Don’t forget water for them also)
  • Depending on the weather, the hike will include a scenic hike out along the Beamer in Flatrock.

Meet Location: Meet in Flatrock at the south end of the beach on Windgap Rd, at the intersection of Boyley’s Lane, Windgap, and Houlihan’s Lane.  We will car pool back to Torbay to St. Nicholas Lane (St. Nicholas Church) for the start of the hike.
