Named for a Newfoundland expression that — according the Dictionary of Newfoundland English — means “having a good time at a dance or party with plenty to eat,” Lawnya Vawnya, festival of independent music and arts, burst onto the Canadian festival calendar nine years ago with creative programming throughout colourful downtown St. John’s.

Lawnya Vawnya is a non-profit arts organization largely run by volunteers. We present multidisciplinary and collaborative artistic experiences focused on new independent music; produce a multi-day festival of music and art each spring in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador; showcase a vibrant music and arts community; and aim to further position St. John’s on a national and international cultural map.
