ORGANIZE A DRAGON BOAT TEAM FOR SUNSPLASH PADDLE IN PARADISE Saturday, August 17, 2019

What’s Paddle in Paradise?

A fantastic day of dragon boat racing, food, and family activities. Shuttle bus service makes for worry free parking. Prizes awarded to the fastest team, the most spirited group, and both the team and the individual with the highest pledge total. This year the Town of Paradise is giving all registered participants a free ticket to the Friday night Sunsplash concert.

What’s Dragon Boating?

Dragon boating is the fastest growing water sport in the world. Dragon Boats are about 40 feet long and hold a team of 20 paddlers and a drummer. Our races are 200 meters and take approximately 2 minutes. Paddlers of all ages and fitness levels love the thrill of dragon boating and it’s a great team building activity.

Who can be on our team?

You will need 20 paddlers and a drummer. Because our team is dedicated to supporting breast cancer survivors, we require each team to have a minimum of 8 women. Team members must be 16 years of age or older. Anyone can enter a team – co-workers, friends, and/or family. No prior experience or fitness levels are required.

What do we need to do?

Deadline for registration is June 15th. Team registration is $200 and we encourage all festival participants to raise a minimum of $100 each in pledges.

How do we register a team?

You can register a team online with the url below or by mail sending a cheque payable to: Avalon Dragon Boating Inc., PO Box 50034, Paradise, NL A1L 0J2.

Who are the Avalon Dragons?

The Avalon Dragons is an enthusiastic dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors. We know that exercise lowers breast cancer risk and that dragon boating helps prevent lymphedema, along with other complications associated with breast cancer surgery.

The funds raised by this Festival each year help us welcome even more survivors into our family and support our mandate to help breast cancer survivors lead strong and healthy lives.
