These 10,000-year-old ice queens waltz through “iceberg alley” to stand at attention for all to admire. Hear their song of sizzling ice as they snap, crackle and pop beside the boat tours that leave our harbours. No ice pick required, just grab a bottle of craft brew Iceberg beer when you unwind downtown.
Mother Nature’s theater is how we refer to our coastline, but obviously showtimes can vary. With the largest population of humpback whales calling Newfoundland home for the summer months, kayaking alongside these friendly tourists feels like an out of body experience. Be sure to give them a wave as they curiously spy hop along the zodiacs.
Let us apologize in advance for the wild neighbours. Millions of seabirds, including the very compact and comical Atlantic puffins, come to our shores to feast and nest for the spring and summer months. If diving for capelin was an Olympic sport the puffins’ suit alone would dazzle the judges.
