“We tried the VPN Margherita, Siciliana, and The Stephanie. All pizzas were delicious, but the real treat was the desserts. We had the Tortino al Dulce de Leche and the Tortino Italiano al Cioccolato – which was my favorite. The chocolate mixed with the orange marmalade was a perfect match!”

“Mallard Cottage is still our favourite restaurant in St. John’s. We’ve visited 3 times on 2 trips back this year (we used to live in St John’s). It has not lost its charm from great service to wonderfully prepared food. Their cod preparation in our opinion is always phenomenal! We also had the mussels which were also delicious! Of course, they have the top sommelier in Atlantic Canada who never leads us astray with a great wine suggestion.”

“Had the pleasure of eating here on Wednesday night and everything about the meal was fabulous. Very good portions and homemade down to the pesto butter and freshly baked bread. “What a great little find. When travelling I love to try as many restaurants as I can fit in. After having lunch at the Hungry Heart Cafe on my first day in St. John’s..it was hard to go elsewhere. What a well-prepared healthy lunch of cod and rice with shiitake mushrooms and fresh Lima beans. Also the brisket tacos.. so delicious. What really made me happy was meeting Pam, our server.. what a sweetheart. She was so informative as well as took great care of us. If you are in St. John’s, I highly recommend going.”

“My partner and I were celebrating a special occasion. We called the restaurant to request a window seat and were amazing in accommodating my request! Our host was super friendly and quick! No glasses were left empty and regularly checked in. The kitchen was great in making sure we had a lactose-free meal for my partner! Thank you for a great meal and service!! Ohh and The seafood spaghetti was fantastic and the seafood wasn’t lacking! Always a great time at the Gypsy Tea Room!”

“I love everything about this place. The vibe and ambiance, exceptional service, knowledgeable servers and bartenders. But most importantly, the delicious food! Whether you want to sit at the bar for a quick meal or bring your friends and family for a nice evening out, EVOO is definitely the spot! They also are great at accommodating food requests, and have a lot of menu items that are gluten-free and vegan! Their bar menu is phenomenal and the head bartender really knows his stuff. “We went to The Rooms and decided to have lunch in the Cafe first before checking out the museum. I had the soup and the turkey sandwich, and really the food was of excellent quality. Service was equally good and you can’t beat the view from the 4th floor overlooking the harbour. We spent a week in St. John’s and the surrounding area, and this visit was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Would highly recommend!”

“Cannot say enough about how much we loved the perfectly tasty, balanced, and specially crafted small plates at a supper out one night when we lived out east. Gorgeous dark chocolate and a most excellent server (an owner of the restaurant too, I believe–something wonderful to see) ended our meal on a perfect note. Every course from start to finish was mouth-watering, and we left thoroughly impressed. A must-do if in St. John’s! Will never miss returning for a bite when back for a visit!”

“I can’t say enough about the food and the service here, not to mention the waterfront setting! Out from the west coast for a conference, we were invited to try the local seafood. The Mussels appy was simply extraordinary, and the Atlantic Cod main course with Garlic Mash was amazing! Upon hearing I am gluten intolerant, they were kind enough to bring some GF tortilla strips and homemade salsa instead of the home-baked bread. Do make this a stop if you are visiting. Friendly, fresh-tasting, feast worthy!”

“The Merchant Tavern was fantastic. My wife and I decided on ordering shareable plates for the evening. We chose the Charcuterie Board, Carbonara and for dessert the gingerbread with Carmel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. Every choice was wonderful. We would happily repeat all of these choices. To complete the atmosphere, all of the servers we had were also top-notch. All in all, definitely 5 out of 5.”
