Fall Hiking

It’s no wonder fall is a favourite hiking season around here. With vibrant fall colours, crisp air, the crunch of leaves beneath your feet, and spectacular views around every corner, the fall season is enough to make a hiker out of just about anyone. There are too many amazing fall hikes in our area to list them all, but these 6 trails are a great place to start!

2 Berry Picking - image

Berry Picking

The best time of year for berry picking is typically July through September with blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and cloudberries (or bakeapples as we call them!) being amongst the most popular. But don’t forget about the later fall gems! Partridgeberries and cranberries can typically be found from September through November. Where to pick? Ask a local for their favourite spot or head out on the East Coast Trail!

3 Seasonal Brews - image

Seasonal Brews

It seems as though craft breweries have taken over St. John’s and vicinity as of late—and, trust us, we’re not complaining! Thankfully many of our local breweries like to take advantage of the flavours and colours of fall to create delicious local seasonal brews, like the Quidi Vidi Oktoberfest Marzen.

4 Pumpkins, Corn Mazes and More - image

Pumpkins, Corn Mazes and More

Visit some of our local farms and community gardens to truly get into the spirit of the season. The Pumpkin Stroll at the CBS Community Garden is a fun one for all ages and Lester’s Farm goes all out with wagon rides, a corn maze, games, and more! Don’t forget about the City of St. John’s Pumpkin Walk at Bannerman Park. Be sure to check locations for updated information.

5 St. John's Haunted Hike - image

St. John's Haunted Hike

The St. John’s Haunted Hike is a classic and theatrical haunted hike experience—and the oldest running ghost tour in St. John’s. Take a guided walk through the historic and haunted streets of our downtown core and listen to tales of days gone by—if you dare. These hikes typically fill up fast so be sure to book early! If you missed out, don’t worry—they also offer private group bookings!

6 Comfort Food - image

Comfort Food

Lucky for us, there’s no shortage of fall foodie inspiration around here and our local chefs take full advantage of the fall colours and flavours. From berries and chanterelles to root vegetables and wild game, dining in the fall truly is an amazing experience. With so many delicious options, where do you start? Fall Colours

Fall is arguably the most colourful season of them all around here with vibrant hues of red, yellow, and orange as the backdrop for our already colourful city full of jellybean row houses and colours around every turn. See for yourself with some of our favourite fall snapshots.
