Come celebrate World Ocean Day 2024 at the Johnson Geo Centre!
Partnering with Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador, Fishing for Success, the Reader Lab, and Dr. John Jamieson and Caroline Gini from Memorial University, we will have a host of activities for children and adults alike – games, hands-on learning activities, trivia, lectures, movies and more! We’d love to see you there as we take a deep dive into the deep blue!
Regular admission applies. No pre-registration necessary.

Our Geo Centre staff will have crafts and interactive activities, including our aquatic fossils and a water table where you can learn about adaptations and coral calcification.

Fishing For Success at Island Rooms of Petty Harbour will bring their interactive displays.

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador will be hand with two rounds of a trivia game, an activity on the positive and negative impacts of our favourite activities on the oceans, as well as some resources on carbon capture.

Memorial University researcher Dr. John Jamieson and his doctoral student Caroline Gini will bring underwater video footage and examples of the equipment they use in underwater sensing.

Kailee Clarke and Kavi Heerah, from Dr. Reader’s lab at Memorial, will present their work on ocean acidification, the carbon cycle, and how they collect deep ocean water samples. They will have an interactive as well.
