With places named Heart’s Content and Cupids, it is easy to see why Newfoundland can be ideal for a romantic getaway. Below are a few ideas to tuck up your sleeve for a day spent with your loved one on the island.

Fresh Air

Getting fresh air isn’t difficult to do when the North Atlantic is your backdrop, which is why we suggest getting outside and exploring our coastline together. Local wedding photographer Alex Stead couldn’t agree more.

“One of my all-time favourite places to go is Cuckhold’s Cove (in between Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi). Don’t let the name fool you – it’s an adorable little cove that’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but within walking distance of downtown. It’s a great place to bring a picnic, go whale watching or look for foxes, pick some blueberries and pretend you’re the only people in the world. ”

To Infinity

What could be more symbolic than an infinity shaped skating loop at Bannerman Park. Located in the heart of the city, the park in the summer is a beautiful place to walk and sit amongst sculptures as you enjoy a scoop of melting ice-cream, but in the winter it transforms itself. The flooded walking loop becomes a magical experience to strap on skates and wobble along together. The park offers free public WiFi, for easy selfie-sharing. It is also one of the top recommended places for wedding and lifestyle photographer, Maddie Mills.

“The Loop at Bannerman park is such an idyllic little place to spend time together in the winter! You can go skating, listen to music, and enjoy the gorgeous winter weather (when Mother Nature is nice to us)! Afterward, you can grab a hot drink at a nearby cafe to warm up and be cozy with your loved one.”

Feeling the Heat

After a romantic walk through the forest it’s time to get cozy. A Boil-Up off the trail allows you to rest, relax and simply enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Pack a warm blanket, some delicious treats from your favourite restaurant and brewery and take in the wonder of a day spent together. A fireside picnic is exactly what family and wedding photographer Nathan Eddy would recommend!

“Enjoying an activity you both love while relaxing and hanging out allows you to capture authentic memories.”
